Scar Revision
Whether your scars were caused by accidents or surgery, they can be physical reminders of experiences you’d prefer to forget, and have a negative impact on your overall self-confidence. Fortunately, modern techniques can significantly reduce visible scar tissue.
The Procedure
At your consultation, Dr. Diehl will discuss several techniques that can be used to reduce your scar tissue including:
Scar Revision: The scar is excised and re-closed with attention to meticulous technique and minimizing tension
Z-plasty: Used to relieve tightened scars or contractures, involves making small incisions, in a z pattern, along the length of the scar. This relaxes the tension in a scar, and provides greater movement. Generally performed under local anesthesia on an outpatient basis.
Local Skin Flaps: Areas of tissue near the scar that can be used to cover the affected area and/or fill in a defect. Generally performed under local anesthesia on an outpatient basis.
Skin Grafts: A small area of skin taken from another part of the body and used to cover the area created by excising the scar.
The Recovery
Scar revision is normally a safe, routine procedure. Healing is usually rapid with little or no pain.
