Neck / Chin / Submental Liposuction
Neck and chin liposuction can help if your “double chin” or heavy jowls negatively-affect the overall contours of your face. Submental or neck liposuction could be remarkably-effective in removing extra fatty tissue and re-sculpting your jaw line for a more aesthetically-pleasing silhouette. Dr. Diehl has been performing laser liposuction to this area for years in the Raleigh, Durham, Cary, and Chapel Hill area since 2009. This is the perfect procedure for the patient with a bit of fat or who is not yet ready for a facelift. Most patients choose to have the procedure very comfortably under local anesthesia only.
After making a small incision near the chin crease, Dr. Diehl will insert a blunt tip cannula to infuse tumescent fluid. This fluid numbs the area, allowing the procedure to be done under local anesthesia without discomfort. The second step is to pass the SMART lipo laser throught the tissue. The laser gently moves back and forth in a continuous motion. The laser helps to minimize bruising and has some skin tightening benefits. After the laser portion is completed, a very small cannula is inserted through the same incision. Using suction, she will remove excess fatty tissue and sculpt the jaw line and remove bulk under the chin. One small dissolvable suture will be used to close the incision. Patients are awake during the entire procedure.
Submental liposuction is an outpatient procedure. After the procedure, Dr. Diehl will apply a snug compression garment. You will then wear this elasticized facial garment for approximately 4-5 days continuously and then as much as possible for the remaining month. Most patients can return to normal activities, including work within a day or two. Most people experience minimal discomfort afterwards. Tylenol is most often used for pain and is only necessary for the first 1-2 days.
