Perhaps you like the size and shape of your breasts, but feel your nipple and areola is disproportionately large or puffy. Areola reduction is almost always a simple procedure that can help to correct this lack of aesthetics.
What is often thought of as “the nipple” is actually made up of the nipple and the areola. The nipple is the projected part. The areola is the dark pigmented skin around the nipple. Areolas can look disproportionately large after a breast reduction or lift, or after childbirth.
Some of the pigmented areola will be removed by making an incision around the outside of the areola. Very large areolas may require a vertical incisions on the breasts to help fully correct. To help minimize scarring, dissolving sutures are used underneath the skin.
If you have “shy” or inverted nipples that you have had from birth, from breast feeding, or from trauma, inverted nipple correction is a simple procedure that can assist in repairing the nipple projection.
A small incision is created at the base of the nipple, then gently spread the fibers parallel to the milk ducts. Once the fibers are spread, and the nipple is in an outward, normal position, special sutures are placed inside the nipple to help add reinforcement, and assist in allowing the nipple retain its projected position.
