Pain and anxiety relief during invasive and non-invasive procedures

Have you ever considered treatment for minor cosmetic issues such as unsightly bulges, or the dreaded crow’s feet but you’re a little worried about pain management? Probably, like thousands of Americans, the thought of being put to sleep or even powerful pain medications for elective procedures just isn’t worth it. Well, there’s good news. Used for decades, Nitrous oxide (N₂O) once heralded as the premier analgesic for labor and delivery worldwide, is making a glorious comeback. Outside of the United States, this tried and true method steadily held its own while here at home the epidural and other powerful pharmaceuticals took over. Thankfully, due to the popularity of treatments considered to be more natural, advancements, or should we say improvements, to an old-fashioned pain management approach has catapulted Pro-Nox to the forefront of delivery systems.  Pro-Nox, a pneumatically driven gas system, has been developed for use in various medical procedures. It is designed to allow patients to control their pain relief instead of lumping everyone in the same category. Highly effective, this system has made both invasive and non-invasive procedures virtually pain-free while eliminating the need for doctors to make assumptions regarding pain levels.

What is Pro-Nox?

Pro-Nox is a self-administered pain management system that allows the patient to be awake and relatively comfortable during their procedures. By combining two gases, nitrous oxide, and oxygen, patients are now able to be an active member of their own medical team. Though nitrous oxide can be dangerous if too much is administered, Pro-Nox puts the patient in control of their usage while administering a very safe mixture and eliminating the ability to overdose. Since patient consciousness is required to maintain the flow of gas and the mixture is automatically controlled by the system itself, nitrous oxide is an ideal analgesic for short, potentially uncomfortable procedures.

Patients inhale the non-addictive mixture of the two gases prior to the beginning of the procedure. While the oxygen allows you to breathe normally, the nitrous oxide acts on the brain to dull pain receptors and produce feelings of relaxation making it useful for treating any anxiety associated with the process. For approximately five minutes the gas is present in the body not only relieving pain but also helping to keep patients calm. Once they begin to feel any discomfort, the patient will let the surgeon know and inhale the mixture once again as the procedure continues. Because nitrous oxide is rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream and dissipates after only a few minutes, pain relief is practically instantaneous but short-lived once inhaling ceases. The process of self-administration will continue until the procedure is completed, therefore completely patient driven. This delivery system is so effective that it has allowed medical providers to perform numerous procedures with very little if any, discomfort. Since the system allows the full and unobstructed access to the face or other areas of the body, the amount of time needed for each procedure generally isn’t extended.

Recovery after Pro-Nox use

One of the many benefits of using the Pro-Nox system for pain relief is the fact that recovery is extremely easy. Many cosmetic procedures typically require strong pharmaceuticals to be administered either topically, orally, by injection or through an IV. Each of these methods requires additional safety precautions such as limiting certain activities and observation by either a medical professional or family member. After procedures with this system, patients may be asked to stay in the clinic for approximately fifteen minutes to ensure all gases are out of their system. Once cleared they are completely safe to operate a car or other machinery.

Though considered completely safe, patients treated with Pro-Nox can experience some side effects. A slight headache, nausea, and dizziness are commonly reported but are generally temporary lasting less than five minutes. To help prevent these, take the time to have a snack and be well hydrated before any procedure using Pro-Nox unless instructed otherwise. Other side effects may also include unusual feelings during the procedure. Patients may experience temporary delusions and a feeling of super relaxation as if they can’t really move. Once Pro-Nox is discontinued, patients quickly begin to feel natural after a short time and typically have no long-term side effects.

Candidates for Pro-Nox

Almost anyone can use the Pro-Nox system for pain relief during cosmetic procedures however, there are some pre-existing conditions that might preclude some patients. As with all medical procedures, patients should discuss any prior illness or injuries to ensure that treatment with nitrous oxide is safe.

Procedures that can be performed with the aid of Pro-Nox

While the benefits of Pro-Nox are many, not all cosmetic procedures can be performed without sedation. However, virtually any non-invasive procedure can be performed with this revolutionary system.
